There’s no telling what is around the corner and what we would do to set situations right should they occur. This is why we take out insurance, so that we can already have measures in place to remedy a situation and take steps to return it to normal when they happen. It is a form of risk management – a way of making sure we can get out of these situations when they have taken place. When we buy a new item we will be aware that something could occur to stop us from enjoying it, so we already know that taking out insurance is a good idea, meaning we can put in the research, find the best policy and take these steps well in advance so that we are not in a difficult situation when it is too late.

So someone might have a home insurance policy, knowing in advance that it is entirely possible someone might break in at some point, or something could happen with the property that would lead us make a claim.

Likewise, those with vehicle insurance, legal requirements for driving on the road, will be able to make a claim on, for example, their van insurance so that they can take steps to put things right after an accident.
